Smog Testing and Information

Trusted Service and Repair of all Foreign and Domestic vehicles

Beginning in March 2008, all vehicles subject to a Smog Check inspection will require a visual test for smoke from the Positive Crankcase Ventilation (PCV) System and tailpipe (follow the link to read the full text). The test requirements and procedures are defined in section 3340.42(f) of the California Code of Regulations.

Also, vehicles 1995 and older being smogged are subject to pass a low EVAP smoke test. This is a required test and is charged separately from the regular smog test

There are basically 2 types of smog test stations; Smog test only (and) Smog Test and Repair. When the DMV sends you information stating that your vehicle needs a smog certificate, the type of facility you need to go to will be listed on your paperwork. Please note that you need to take your vehicle to the type of test facility listed there.

Pro Auto is an authorized Smog Test and Repair Station. What this means to you the consumer, is that our facility is authorized to perform a smog test on your vehicle and if repairs are needed to correct a failed smog condition, we can do so. We can also perform diagnostics and repairs on a vehicle that has failed a smog test at a test only station and if need be, we can then test the vehicle to determine if it will then pass.

Our service advisors are more than happy to answer any questions that you may have regarding this or any other issue pertaining to your vehicle.
